Students threaten to shut down Osun state over lecturers strike, gives Aregbesola 7-day ultimatum
Press Release
BEING A PRESS STATEMENT OF NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN STUDENTS JOINT CAMPUS COMMITTEE (NANS/JCC) OSUN AXIS ON THE ONGOING INDUSTRIAL ACTION OF THE STATE ACADEMIC STAFF UNION UNDER CASUOSTI, A JOINT UNION OF COEASU AND ASUP
The leadership of NANS/JCC Osun, the Apex Students Union body in the State, after several consultations with the leaders of CASUOSTI and interaction with the government can no longer keep silent as our silence will not only become criminal but satanic.
We condemn holistically the lackadaisical attitude of the government which has refused to call the striking workers to negotiation table.
It is against interest of students and the peace of the state as our continuous idleness is capable enough to plunge Osun into crisis.
We the leadership of NANS/JCC Osun demands that:
- In the next seven days the Osun State government put up measures towards ensuring quick re-opening of our campuses failure which we may be forced to hit the street again, again and again.
- The Government must immediately start negotiation with the striking lecturers.
- The Osun government must show genuine commitment towards funding tertiary education.
4. NO! To workers/students victimization and every other form of inhumanity.
- We also appeal to the workers to shed the toga of parochialism and negotiate in the interest of Nigerian students, putting in consideration the present day economic reality. ONE FOR ALL! ALL FOR ONE!
Failure to address these within the given next seven days will be met with our revolutionary reaction across the length and breadth of the state of Osun.
It will be wise not to test our resolve on this.
