Player Slumps and Dies During Adeleke Memorial Cup Final in Osun
A tragic incident marred the Adeleke Memorial Cup final held at the Ataoja School of Science in Osogbo, Osun State, on Thursday, when a player from the Ilesa West football team, Adeyemi Adewale, slumped on the pitch.
The 29-year-old midfielder collapsed during the match and was immediately rushed to the Osun State University Teaching Hospital. Despite efforts by medical personnel, he was later confirmed dead by the hospital’s doctor.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Osun Police Command, Yemisi Opalola, said the player’s body has been deposited at the hospital morgue.
“While the Adeleke Memorial Cup finals match was going on at Ataoja School of Science, one Adeyemi Adewale (29), a player from Ilesa West football team, slumped on the pitch,” Opalola said.
“He was rushed to Osun State University Teaching Hospital, where he was later confirmed dead by the doctor.”
The circumstances surrounding Adewale’s collapse remain unclear, and authorities are expected to investigate the cause of death.
