No U.S. or Nigerian personnel injured during the coordinated military action against ISIS -AFRICOM
The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), in collaboration with the Nigerian government, carried out fresh airstrikes against ISIS fighters in northeastern Nigeria on May 17, 2026.
According to AFRICOM, intelligence reports confirmed that the targets were members of the Islamic State group operating in the region. Authorities said assessments of the operation are still ongoing.
The command also stated that no U.S. or Nigerian personnel were injured during the coordinated military action.
AFRICOM noted that the operation was aimed at weakening the terrorist group’s ability to organise and launch attacks that could threaten the security of the United States and its allies.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to supporting partner nations with specialised military capabilities to combat shared security threats.
