Sam Okwaraji: The Nigerian Star Who Died On Football Field At 25
In 1989, Nigeria lost one of its best footballers – Samuel Okwaraji, a Master’s degree holder who abandoned his certificate to play football. He was completing his PhD thesis when he collapsed and died on the pitch in 1989 while playing for Nigeria.
He was 25 when he died and had played only 10 games for Nigeria.
