Police patrol Somolu as residents fear reprisal attacks over cult leader’s death

Residents of Somolu and its environs are moving about in trepidation over possible reprisal attacks by cult groups who lost their members on Wednesday.

An Eiye cult leader identified as Ibrahim Oriyomi Balogun aka Jpron, was killed in a clash with a rival group in the area. A member of the rival cult group, Solomon was also killed. 21 suspects have been arrested by the police in connection to the incident.

Police say the clash occurred as a result of a political gathering organised by a politician, Hon. Ademorin Kuye.

Since the incident, Fadeyi, Palmgrove, Somolu and Bariga residents have been fearing the worst.

A resident told Neusroom on Thursday that “there was blood everywhere” as she made her way home through Palmgrove on Wednesday.

“Everywhere was quiet,” she said. “I had to be extremely cautious of my surrounding and took bus to a place I normally would have trekked.”

Neusroom gathers that as at Thursday morning, residents were still in fear of the unknown as they left for their places of work.

Lagos police have also envisaged the possibility of reprisal attacks, and have been patrolling the troubled spots in the metropolis since the incident.

“We kept vigil all through the night to ensure law and order is maintained in the Shomolu-Bariga parts of the state. As at this morning, 21 people have been arrested while investigation is in progress,” Police said Thursday afternoon.
