OAU suspends sex-for-mark lecturer indefinitely
An emerging report has it that Prof. Richard Akindele, the Obafemi Awolowo University lecturer whose telephone conversation in which he demanded for sex from a female student was recorded and leaked on social media, has been suspended.
In the released conversation which has since gone viral, Prof Akindele proposed to have sex with the student five consecutive times before he would upgrade her mark from 33 to a pass mark.
A member of the committee setup to look into the matter, confirmed to Punch that the committee has recommended an indefinite suspension for Akindele pending the time the final report will be ready.
The committee member who pleaded anonymity, said the school was able to identify the female student, and revealed she was an MBA regular student.
“The committee recommended the indefinite suspension of the professor pending the time the final report will be ready. The committee established a prima facie case against the professor. But note that this is the interim report of the committee.
“The committee invited the professor and the female student. We identified the student and invited her, but she did not appear. Only the professor honoured our invitation. I don’t want to tell you what he said on the telephone,” he added.
