Nigerian-born man gets two years in UK prison for sexual assault
A Nigerian-born man, Obinwa Obichukwu, has been sentenced to two years in prison in the United Kingdom for sexually assaulting a woman at a train station in Euston.
The 45-year-old was found guilty after approaching the woman twice on the evening of August 20, 2023. During the encounter, he grabbed her hand while professing his love to her.
The British Transport Police (BTP) announced the sentencing on Tuesday and also released Obichukwu’s photograph following the court’s decision.
“We’ve put another sexual predator in prison. Obinwa Obichukwu targeted a lone woman and attacked her at Euston station. For doing so, he’ll now spend two years behind bars,” the BTP said.
According to the authorities, the woman was walking alone towards the station when Obichukwu approached her and tried to strike up a conversation about the music she was listening to.
He later placed his arm around her shoulders, invited her to his home, and continued following her as she walked along Euston Road.
The assault continued after they reached the station, where he allegedly sexually assaulted her at the entrance and again near the ticket barriers after trailing her down the escalator to the Underground.
The victim managed to push him away before fleeing the scene.
Police officers later traced Obichukwu to his residence, where he was arrested in connection with the assault.
He was convicted in January by the Inner London Crown Court on two counts of sexual assault and was sentenced on July 21 to two years’ imprisonment.
In addition to the prison term, the court imposed a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) on him and ordered that he remain on the sex offenders register for the same period.
Earlier this year, another Nigerian, Daniel Odubanjo, received a six-year prison sentence for sexually assaulting several women on a train, including one incident inside a toilet.
In November 2025, Chiemka Okoronta, a Nigerian postgraduate student, was sentenced to 10 years in prison after being convicted of raping a 17-year-old girl.
