UPDATE: Kaduna ice scream seller has 5 kids, can’t afford house rent
Musa Halidu the ice cream seller in Kaduna may have been gifted N110,000 by well-meaning Nigerians but the cash is surely not enough to be considered a proper “retirement package”.
We’re not even sure whatever is left of the money after Musa pays his rent, which his landlord recently hiked, will be enough to feed seven mouths.
“He has five children and lives in a rented house”, Facebook user Zaradn Espee, who helped raise N110,000 for the Kaduna ice cream seller, told NewsroomNG.
“At Turaki International School, he used to give us free ice cream when we had no money. He even gave us ice cream after we became grownups.”
“He paid for the free ice cream from his sales. Sometimes he would pay back in a couple of days.”
“I learned he makes about N1,000 a day and that his rent has recently been jacked up from 25,000 to N40,000”, Epree said.
The Facebook user said he wondered how Musa, his wife and children would survive the current economic hardship with such meagre income.
It was that concern that inspired him help raise N110,000 for the old man.
Musa was left in tears after receiving the “huge” cash gift. We’re sure he appreciated it. That’s definitely a lot of money for your regular ice cream seller.
But for how long can Musa’s family go on that cash? What should he do with the money? Should Nigerians donate more money to the man and his family?
