UNILAG girls beat hell out of suspected hostel “armed” robber
A suspected thief who broke into a hostel in the University of Lagos (UNILAG) this morning was given the shocker of his life.
In UNILAG, incidents of thefts are not unheard of during examination periods when students who are focused on upping their grades tend to “neglect” securing their properties.
Suspected thieves reportedly take advantage of the situation to rob students of valuables like phones and laptops.
The guy who allegedly broke into Moremi Hall in the early hours of Tuesday must have been counting on this laxity to make way with such valuables.
He was wrong.
“Come and see the way students beat him,” a student resident in the female hostel told Newsroom on Tuesday morning.
“You mean male students came from their hostels to beat the thief?” our reporter asked.
“No, the girls descended on him and taught him a big lesson,” the student who doesn’t want to be named replied.
It is not clear if the “thief” intended or attempted raping the female student he found alone when he reportedly broke into one of the hostel rooms around 2:00 a.m.
But eyewitnesses said there was a struggle between the two before hostel security officials stepped in.
They also said the suspected thief was “armed” with a chemical substance he probably intended to make his victims dizzy or sleep off.
After he was apprehended, the suspected thief allegedly claimed he was not a thief but was present in the hostel after “someone called me here,” eyewitnesses said.
“I saw a crowd approaching from the F-Wing dragging this young man,” a female student who stays in Moremi Hall wrote in a blog post after the incident.
The post was later taken down but multiple sources inside Moremi Hall confirmed to Newsroom the incident did occur.
The eyewitness said at length:
I asked a girl who was party to the dragging what happened she said the guy entered into a room in the H-Wing and he was caught packing laptops and phones.
Then a girl screamed in the room and fortunately for her, a security guard who went to urinate around the wing came to her rescue.
This young man was still bragging after being caught, he said he and his friends came for overnight reading (well! looks like no more classes to read in UNILAG). He continued in his ranting “I am not a thief someone called me here”(at 2.am in a girl’s hostel?).
All his attempts to escape proved futile. He was beaten mercilessly.
Soon after, Alpha Base (the school security folks) stormed in and took him away.Oh! Did I forget to mention he was caught with a liquid substance in a sprite pet bottle? Trust me it isn’t sprite. A source told me it is sprinkler which makes people dizzy and become unconscious of the happenings around them.
