#SaveMayowa: Everything we’ve learnt so far

The controversies surrounding the #SaveMayowa fund raising campaign is no longer news.

A lot has been, and is being, said from various angles as it concerns Toyin Aimakhu’s claim that the fundraiser was a claim.

We are still trying to get a hang of the whole issue as the parties involved continue to sing discordant tunes.

Below is all we have learnt, so far, about the issue.

Toyin Aimakhu is convinced the family scammed Nigerians.

She came to that conclusion because the family told her “they didn’t want to see anyone with Mayowa”.

She also claimed the family told her they were taking Mayowa to Reddington while they told the doctors they were flying her abroad on the same day (Wednesday).

So is Aramide Kasumu.

Apart from Aimakhu’s argument, Kasumu also believes Mayowa would need about N150 million for treatment in the United States as opposed to the N32 million the family annouced for the fundraiser.

She also said the family raised N85 million while they claim to have raised N30 million.

“Basically it is not curable and if it is curable, it is only by the grace of God.”

The Ahmed family has not issued a cogent statement.

Except this video by one Habeeb Olufoye who said he’s Mayowa’s cousin.

Of course, he sees no reason why they would scam Nigerians.

He said the family will take any chance no matter how minute to try and save Mayowa.

“Right now we are waiting on the visa,” he said.

And this attributed to Mayowa’s sister Ahmed Mariam:

“I don’t know why Toyin Aimakhu and Linda Ikeji are saying we are scamming nigerians.

“It is a lie. No doctor ever told us my sister cannot survive this. They just told us to do something and take her out of the country.

Nigerians, we didn’t scam you ooo. It’s a lie ooo. Linda Ikeji has never been in this story and now, she’s cooking up everything… Right now, my sister is inside the room crying.

‘I don’t know what she (Linda Ikeji) wants us to do. I don’t know what she (Linda Ikeji) wants from us. Please, we don’t know anything about the scam.

“It is true, my sister has ovarian cancer. At least, we sent the medical report. We posted everything online. You people saw everything. Nobody even asked her to put the video. She was just tired. She put the video because she does not want to die. And she posted it online. Now, everything is out.

“There is nothing we can do but keep praying to God. I don’t know why Linda just cooked up the story. Nobody told us she’s going to die.”

The police have begun “full scale” investigation

The Lagos State commissioner of police CP Fatai Owoseni has directed full scale investigation into the report that the “Save Mayowa Campaign” is a fraud, Lagos police spokesperson, Dolapo Badmos, said in a statement.

The investigation will be extended to LUTH

The doctors will also explain themselves.

The Access bank account has been frozen

Efforts are also being made to contact the managers of Gofundme online account “to ensure funds raised through that platform is not fraudulently diverted”, police say.
