We are investigating #SaveMayowa “scam”, Police confirms
The police in Lagos have confirmed they are investigating allegations of fraud in the recent #SaveMayowa fund raising campaign.
Lagos police spokesperson, Dolapo Badmos confirmed the development in a message to us moments ago.
“The command is investigating the case,” Badmus told our correspondent.
A source also told our correspondent some members of Mayowa’s family have been detained.
The campaign had raised money in excess of N32 million to fund the treatment of Ahmed Mayowa who is down with ovarian cancer.
Allegations however surfaced, earlier on Thursday, that the Ahmed family sold Nigerians a false hope to raise the money as doctors at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH, had told them their daughter won’t survive the illness.
Unsurprisingly, this development has raised many eyebrows including those of the police.
A reliable source from LUTH told our correspondent the police paid the patient a visit at the hospital on Thursday..
