NCDC lists what each state got from Jack Ma’s COVID-19 prevention and control materials

The Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC), the government agency at the front line of the fight against COVID-19 in Nigeria has listed how it shared the prevention and control materials donated by Chinese billionaire and founder of Alibaba, Jack Ma.

The materials which include face masks, overall gown and face shield and reagents for testing were shared among the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Only the reagents for testing were not distributed to the states, they are to be used at the five laboratories set up by the NCDC in Lagos, Osun, Edo and Abuja.

NCDC said it gave priority to states with highest number of confirmed cases.

“The supplies received have been distributed to states accordingly, with priority given to states with the highest number of cases at the time of distribution,” NCDC wrote on its verified Twitter handle.

Lagos with 98 of the 190 confirmed cases got the highest supply, while Abuja and Osun with 38 and 20 respectively followed Lagos.

Jack announced announced on Monday March 16 2020 that he would donate a total of 1.1 million testing kits, six million masks, and 60,000 protective suits and face shields to all the 54 African countries to support the continent in its fight against the novel coronavirus.

Each of the 54 African countries were expected to get 20,000 test kits, 100,000 masks and 1,000 medical use protective suits and face shields.
