Shortly after completing his move to Chelsea from Marseille, Belgian striker Michy Batshuayi sat down and spoke to the club’s official website at Cobham.

The 22-year-old, who was clearly delighted to have finalised his transfer, discussed making progress and footballing idols, as well as outlining his ambitions for the coming campaign…

Hi Michy, welcome to the club. How does it feel to be a Chelsea player?

It feels fantastic to be here, it’s a childhood dream for me.

What are your first impressions of Cobham?

It’s wonderful. It’s very big and you feel that you’ve joined a club that really want to win.

Did you speak to your Belgium team-mates Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois before signing? What did they say to you?

They told me I was joining a magnificent club with a magnificent stadium and magnificent fans.

What are your biggest qualities as a player?

I’m very young and still have progress to make but I’m a very technical player and like to use both feet.

You scored in a recent friendly against Antonio Conte’s Italy side and now you will be working under him, you must be looking forward to that?

It’s a real chance for me and I’m looking forward to starting with a new club and new coach. It’s a great opportunity.

Have you had a chance to speak to Antonio?

Yes, just briefly but he speaks good English and I don’t (laughs).

Are you a fan of the Premier League and have you watched much of Chelsea in recent years?

Yes, everybody watches Premier League football and of course I’ve seen a lot of Chelsea matches.

Who were your footballing idols growing up?

The Brazilian Ronaldo. He was a phenomenal player.

You were part of the Belgium squad at Euro 2016 and scored against Hungary with your first touch, that must have been a special feeling…

It was fantastic, it would have been wonderful to go further in the competition but unfortunately we lost against Wales.

The cross for your goal was supplied by your new Chelsea team-mate Eden…

Yes, myself and Eden get on very well both on and off the field.

Didier Drogba is a Chelsea legend and, like yourself, joined the club from Marseille. Are you confident you can enjoy similar success here?

We are different people, I totally respect the career Didier had at Chelsea and I am going to do my best.

What are your main aims for your first season at the club?

To enjoy myself and give my maximum to help the team win matches..
