The reign of Spaniard Rafael Benitez at the Bernabeu has ended after seven months of “boring” football.

Real’s B team coach Zinedine Zidane, 43, has been promoted to the role of first-team boss.

Benitez, 55, was fired following a meeting of the club’s board on Monday.

Real Madrid lost just three of their 25 competitive matches under Benitez, but the club’s supporters say they don’t like his “boring” style.

Benitez also came under fire after Madrid were thrown out of Spanish Cup for fielding an ineligible player.

Benitez remains the only manager in history to have won the UEFA Cup, UEFA Champions League, and FIFA Club World Cup.

“We have taken the difficult decision to rescind the contract of Rafael Benitez as coach,” Real Madrid president Florentino Perez said on Monday.
