Lagos University Teaching Hospital announces new guidelines for attending to patients

As COVID-19 continues to affect our daily lives, the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) is also changing its mode of attending to patients at its clinics in response to the deadly virus.

According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), there are presently 232 confirmed cases of the deadly virus in Nigeria. Businesses, social, sporting and school across the country have been shutdown due to the coronavirus.

The Federal Government had also ordered cessation of movements in Lagos, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Ogun State to curb the spread of the virus.

To limit contacts and reduce large gatherings at its clinics in compliance with social distancing, LUTH in a statement on its website said registered patients would need to fill an online form, send an SMS to the appropriate clinic to book an appointment before visiting.

The guideline released by the LUTH department of medicine outpatient clinics says patients who have already been attending (and are registered in) the clinics and need to contact their doctors regarding their routine care or what to do during this period (apart from emergencies), should do one of the following:

Fill the online form, send a text message (SMS) to the clinic number or call the appropriate number for the clinic between 8am and 4pm on Weekdays.
