Lagos police arrest notorious armed robbery suspect
Lagos police has nabbed an alleged armed robber who was said to have been on its wanted listed for a long time.
Police say Taiwo Gbolahan, aka Scammer, is suspected to be a member of the gang that attacked and killed a Sergeant earlier in the year at Akala-Mushin.
Taiwo was arrested on Tuesday following a tip off and a handset and numerous SIM cards were found in his possession, police say.
Police further said in a statement that investigation into the source of the handset revealed the owner as one Memunat Opeyemi Zerbo, of Orile Iganmu.
“She was invited to the police station where she identified Taiwo as part of a three man gang of armed robbers that robbed her valuables, same day he was arrested.
“She narrated how the gang, armed with guns, cutlass and dagger, robbed her of her handset and SIM card,” the statement read.
Memunat also said Taiwo and his gang transferred the sum of N170,000 from her account.
Taiwo, police say, didn’t deny committing the crime. He is said to be helping the police in its effort to arresting other members of the gang.
