Kalu and Solape: How Airwoman became a victim of love

*When the going was good: Solape wouldn’t have imagined Kalu would pull the trigger that would end her life.*

The families of Air Force personnel, Kalu B.A and his late girlfriend, Solape Oladipupo have been left to agonizingly wonder what could have been, as what appeared an enviable love story between two young lovebirds has quickly turned into a forgettable nightmare.

Like two peas in a pod, Kalu and Solape had been unflinching in their public expressions of love towards each other.

Kalu, on his part, expressed his eagerness to walk down the aisle with his beautiful colleague at every possible opportunity. Much so, that his mom, and aunt, took notice.

A detail of their journey into love, as shared on his Facebook, suggested the couple kicked off their affair late in 2016.

*Kalu and Solape seemed to be head over heels in love.*

He once shared a story on how their paths crossed, which he narrated as: “It all started with a “Hello”. I remember vividly that Monday morning on d parade ground. seeing such a beauty, pondering on what’s right to say to her. Every ones eyes was on her but my eyes were bigger. I was over blown by the wind of bravado, standing next to her. It was all about me looking like the beast while she was the beauty but today beauty fell in love with d beast and they both live happily ever after. My love story!!!”

On one of Kalu’s very many public displays of affection, his aunt Mrs. Doris Amahi Aghagbon had commented, “I hope she’s going to be my wife”, to which he gladly replied, “For sure mum… Very soon.”

Kalu’s aunt expressed hope that he would get married to Solape.

“That’s good my boy… She’s very beautiful,” Mrs Aghagbon further replied.

Kalu said he would marry Solape “soon”

That possibility of a happy ending has been shattered, as Kalu pumped bullets into Solape early Sunday morning, killing his lover intentionally. His attempt to take his own life afterwards proved unsuccessful.

He had found out she cheated on him, reports say.

A further dig into Kalu’s not-so-discreet love attachments, however, indicates that he had been involved in relationships before Solape.

In October 2016, shortly before he began flooding his Facebook of his “undying” love for Solape, Kalu had shared pictures of a fun day out with a girl whom he had described as “the koko.”

*Kalu seemed to have had a girlfriend, shortly before he began making his union with Solape public.*

In a separate post, he had sent birthday wishes the unidentified girl’s way, with the words: “She’s looking sweet. Her yellow nails compliment her pink lips. Happy birthday baby… Long life, joy and prosperity.”

This indicates that the young soldier was, perhaps, not new to giving his somewhat fragile heart to a woman.

His irrational act has however left both aggrieved families licking their wounds, wondering what made Solape’s case different.

Kalu has been arrested and the Nigerian Air Force said it had launched investigation into the case.
