BHM at 20: Ayeni Adekunle Becomes Group CEO and Board Chair of BHM Holdings

BHM, the Lagos-founded communications company, has restructured as BHM Holdings, naming founder Ayeni Adekunle as Group Chief Executive Officer and Board Chair as it marks its 20th anniversary. Under the new structure, BHM, ID Africa and Plaqad now operate as separate companies within the holding group. The leadership changes take effect on 1 January 2027.

Iretomiwa Akintunde-Johnson will become Managing Director of BHM, while Njideka Akabogu will become Managing Director of ID Africa. Joseph Enesu will continue to lead Plaqad and Plaqad Intelligence.

The company began in Lagos two decades ago with the stated ambition of building a world-class African communications company. The restructuring marks what it describes as the start of its next chapter.

BHM Holdings has also completed its first private placement. The company said proceeds will support investment in technology and the development of new services. It did not disclose the size of the raise or the identity of investors. In 2027, the group plans to introduce an education scholarship aimed at developing the next generation of talent.

The company pointed to several milestones over its first 20 years. World PR Day, an initiative associated with the group, now reaches professionals in more than 65 countries. NECLive has reached more than 100 million people, and BHM has received 26 PRovoke acknowledgements in the past five years.
