Holy “expo”! Nigerian church school caught in alleged exam scandal
Students at a college owned by a popular Nigerian church are allegedly getting illegal help from exam invigilators.
They are students of Calvary Heritage College located in Ijoko, Ogun State.
“I was on an assignment around there when I had an encounter with some students in a bus,” a source who doesn’t want to be identified told Newsroom on Wednesday night.
The students apparently just wrote Literature-in-English Paper 1, and, according to our source, confessed they had help from invigilators.
“After requesting to see the question booklet from one of them next to me, I discovered that all answers had been ticked with pencils,” our source said.
“I asked the student if their centre was one of those they called out answers for candidates. He admitted that that was why all the ‘correct’ options had been ticked in the question booklet although he knew some answers on his own.
“All through this, I didn’t know the name of the school but was surprised and disappointed to learn it’s that school after I asked the student,” our source said.
Newsroom contacted the school on Thursday morning. An official who spoke with our correspondent said the school is owned by Calvary Bible Church in Idimu, Lagos State. But he added that the school didn’t engage in any exam malpractice.
“It is a very wrong speculation,” he said.
“We’ve been here for 10 years running a high academic standard. The school is owned by Christians. We don’t do anything of such.
“I was there yesterday when the exam was on. There was no incidence of exam malpractice. WAEC sent a representative here and there was nothing of such. We don’t help students in exam halls,” he said.
When we contacted Calvary Bible Church, and official told us “we don’t own any school”.
