FG shuts down land borders for general elections

The Federal Government has disclosed its intention to shut down all land borders between Nigeria and neighbouring countries as a counter-measure to any external influence in the upcoming general election.

The directive which will take effect from Friday February 15 to Sunday February 17, accounts for the entire duration of the Presidential and National Assembly elections.

Nigeria Minister of Interior, Lt.-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd), revealed that the order was given by the  the Comptroller-General of Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Mr Muhammad Babandede.

As a result of the shutdown, there will be restriction of movement in all of the affected border areas within the country and the public is advised to take note and ensure compliance.
