FG set to reduce cost of JAMB, NECO forms

Starting from January 2019, the cost of registration for JAMB’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME and NECO’s Senior Secondary School Examination, SSCE, will reduce drastically .

The announcement was made by the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu as he revealed the outcome of the Federal Executive Council meeting held at the State House in Abuja today.

The cost of registering for JAMB is expected to reduce from N5,000 to N3,500 while  NECO will drop from N11,350 to N9,850.

The report indicates that President Buhari has approved the price reduction for these National exams, countering the enormous revenues that was generated by these agencies as an indication that the registeration fees needed some modifications.

“The Exam Agencies are not meant to be revenue generating bodies, they’re only supposed to cover costs/operating expenses. The sharp increase in remittances by JAMB(from less than N60m in 2010–2016 to >N15 BILLION in 2017/18) have shown that the fees being charged could be reduced,” the statement points out.

The Ministry of Education has been saddled with the responsibility of reviewing all the necessary registration fees that need some adjustments.
