FG can only afford N24,000 minimum wage – Ngige
October 10, 2018
A N24,000 minimum wage is being proposed by the Federal Government for civil servants in the country.
The proposal signifies just a N6,000 addition to the current minimum wage of N18,000.
Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige said during a press briefing at the State House on Wednesday (today) that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC)’s demand for N30,000 minimum wage was not feasible.
He said that the Federal Government would only be able to afford N24,000.
Nigeria’s minimum wage was last reviewed in 2010 when former President Goodluck Jonathan increased the pay from N7,500 to N18,000.
