Father throws “wizard” teenage son into village well for “bringing bad luck”

This is not the well into which Ogada allegedly dumped his teenage son.

After a middle-aged Nigerian father was convinced his teenage son was the wizard behind his dwindling fortune, he reportedly arranged with a friend to dump the lad in a well. And they did, reports say.

Papa Ogada, a resident of Oberete village in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State, makes caskets for a living . He had been separated from the 14-year-old’s mother who took custody of the boy after the couple parted ways.

Ogada later reunited with his son who brought misfortune along with the reunion, or so he thought.

“He once told us that he had consulted many spiritualists, who told him that his son is a wizard and is behind the problems he has had in his business,” residents who witnessed what happened next told local media.

But they said none of them accommodated the thought that Ogada would even think of “getting rid of” the boy, his own son.

Around 9:00 p.m. on a recent night, Ogada and a friend allegedly tied up the boy. They did the same to his books, school uniform, books and every other thing that represented the boy and drove off to Abiaka, a village not far from Oberete.

It was there they allegedly found an abandoned well into which they threw the 14-year-old, and the story could have ended there. But it didn’t.

It so happened that the boy who “brought misfortune” to his father was not quite unfortunate.

“Some of us had already retired for the day when we started hearing shouts and cries coming from the location of the abandoned well, but we thought people were fighting,” an Abiaka resident told Vanguard which originally publish this news.

“As the shouts increased, we summoned courage and got to the area and discovered that it was coming from the abandoned well. We got a rope and bucket, threw them inside and the boy managed to cling to and was pulled out.

“He was already weak with injuries. We thanked God the well had been out of use; he might not have survived.”

Abia State police said they were yet to receive any report of the incident. Reports say the boy is being treated in hospital.
