Father of four shoots uncle to death over alcoholic drink addiction

A 25-year-old father of four, Dodo Baraje has been nabbed by a team of policemen attached to Bangi Police Division of Niger State for the alleged killing of his uncle who he simply identified as Baraje.

Dodo, a resident of Shirumbu village, Maraga Local Government Area of the state, was said to have killed 50-year-old Baraje during a heated argument over Dodo’s love for a local brew called ‘suck and die’.

It was gathered that Baraje was unhappy because of Dodo’s addiction to alcoholic drinks.

When Baraje prevented Dodo from taking the ‘suck and die’ drink, Dodo who had been living with his uncle from infancy, ran inside the house, picked a gun, directed it to his uncle and pulled the trigger.

While confessing to the crime, Dodo said he shot his uncle to death after he beat him up for consuming the drink which the deceased said it’s culpable of destroying Dodo’s life.

Dodo said, “Out of annoyance, I ran into the house, picked a gun and shot him. I never knew that he would die, he was only correcting me so that I will be a better person in the society, someone my family will be proud of.”

The father of four added, “I don’t know how I am going to explain this to my family, especially to my wife who loved my late uncle so much. In fact, I was under the influence of alcohol; ordinarily I wouldn’t have killed my uncle who took care of me.

“I had never quarreled with him before, honestly, I don’t know what came over me. May Allah forgive me. I now realised what I have done to my life, I am a fool.”

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Abubakar disclosed that the police recovered one single-barrelled gun from Dodo.
