Farmer, 42, drowns while attempting to save goat from well

A livestock farmer in the Egbeda area of Lagos has died after drowning in a well in his bid to save his goat.

Segun Onagunwa, who reared animals on his farm on Joe Arubiewe Street, Mosan, entered the well when one of his goats accidentally fell inside.

Onagunwa, 42, had gone to the farm with his son on Thursday when the incident happened, reports say.

He got into the well while locking his son out, before his wife arrived the farm to discover he had drowned.

One of the officials of the Lagos State Fire Service who evacuated Onagunwa’s body narrated the incident:

“He locked the gate from inside and the boy was unable to open the gate. His hand could not reach where the gate was locked. He was crying. It was his mother that eventually came when it was getting late,” the source shared.
