Domestic Violence: Police couple stab each other over disagreement

A fight between two police couple left the man within battling for his life on Saturday.

Folake Ogunbodede, a police Sergeant, was said to have stabbed Taiwo, an Inspector, following a disagreement at their residence in Ipaja area of Lagos.

Folake allegedly fled the home immediately after the incident. Taiwo was later rescued by neighbors who rushed him to the hospital.

A source close to the couple is quoted as saying she acted in self defence as Taiwo had been constantly beating her.

“The truth is that her husband is also a policeman. He’s an Inspector, and attached to LASTMA. They have been married for long and they have three children. The man always beats her whenever he’s drunk,” the source told The Nation.

“He doesn’t just beat her but uses any object close-by to hit her. There was a time he stabbed her on her breast and mouth. His drinking habit is one of the issues that usually caused problems between them.

“I don’t know what caused Saturday’s fight, but he was the one who broke a glass and stabbed her near her eye and by the neck.

“He pinned her to the ground, and in order to safe herself, she picked a splinter of the broken glass and stabbed him. That was how she fled the house to the police to report herself.”

Police spokesperson in Lagos, Chike Oti, said the case was under investigation.
