Child Trafficking: 2 immigration officers arrested, 6 underage girls rescued
Officials at the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria arrested two officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service for attempted human trafficking at the departure hall of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos on Thursday.
The officers allegedly attempted to traffic six underage girls to Omar and Kuwait aboard Ethiopian Airlines when they were caught.
It was gathered that the officers who were arrested were among those who worked at the airport but were said to be off duty as of the time of their arrest.
The officers attempted to evade arrest but were overpowered and arrested by a combined team of security agencies at the airport.
A source said the girls had been taken to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, while the officers were detained for questioning.
The NIS had ordered an investigation into the incident to reveal the identities of the suspects and apply appropriate sanctions.
