Boy, 6, drinks drain cleaner, escapes death by whiskers

Thinking it was water, the boy drank the few droplets of lethal chemicals remaining in a mineral water bottle.

His mother, Vikki Arthur, had used the bottle to pour the fluid down the shower drain leaving it virtually empty.

But the few droplets that Sonny downed almost took his life.

Vikki, 45, said she heard a horrible scream as Sonny came running down the stairs in agony, Evening Standard reports.

“He immediately started vomiting and foaming, it was like something out of a horror movie,” she said, “It was just awful, I have nightmares about it. You could see his body shutting down”.

However, the family didn’t know what was happening to Sonny until they arrived a hospital where they were asked if he had digested cleaning products.

There, he was induced into a coma and fitted with a tube to aid his breathing. Two days later and to the relief of everyone, he woke up and started to improve.

He was discharged on New Year’s eve after spending two weeks in hospital but still has to eat through a tube for at least a year considering the damage caused to his oesophagus..
