Kano: Student allegedly rapes 9-year-old after promising to buy her oranges
A Nigerian student has been accused of raping a nine-year-old orange seller.
Muhammad Sani, 23, was on Friday arraigned before a Kano Magistrates’ Court.
Prosecutors told the court Sani, who resides at Dawanau Quarters, Dawakin Tofa local government area, deceived the victim and lured her into his room with the pretext to buy some oranges from her.
The alleged rape occurred around 7:30pm on February 20. A neighbor reported the case to the police on February 22.
“The accused forcefully had unlawful sexual intercourse with her inside his room,’’ he prosecutor Iliyasu Muhammad said, adding that the offence contravened Section 283 of the Penal Code.
But Sani’s lawyer said his client didn’t rape the girl.
The Chief Magistrate, Halima Nasir, ordered the remand of the accused in prison and adjourned the case till March.20, for further mention.
