Bizarre: Gambling addict loses wife, sons to bet in India
Indian police are looking for a man who gambled away his wife and children.
The man, identified only as Moshin, had in 2015, engaged in a bet where the winner could take the loser’s family to pay off the debt.
Moshin originally gambled away his entire family but the debt was reduced to one child after the wife protested.
Times of India reports that the case only came to light this week.
Reports say Moshin, a well-known gambling addict, was betting against a man named only as Imran.
At one point Moshin bet his wife and two children but lost, after which Imran went to the loser’s house to collect his prize.
Moshin’s wife protested and sought council ruling on the case. The council ruled that one of the two children had to be given away to satisfy the debt.
The wife subsequently filed for divorce from Moshin – who she married in 2012.
She eventually filed a petition at a district court and on Monday (yesterday) a judge ordered officers to look into the matter.
Investigators have now opened a case and are searching for Moshin, who has since left his home.
