Abuja: Four UNIABUJA students die in ghastly accident
Four students of University of Abuja have died in a road accident which occurred on Tuesday night at Gwako village, on the Abuja-Lokoja road.
The driver of the Peugeot 406 car in which the students were travelling was said to have run into a deep pothole, with the car veering off its lane as he lost control.
The car collided with an oncoming trailer, killing all its four occupants on the spot at about 10:12p.m, reports reveal.
“The Peugeot car somersaulted after hitting a pothole and collided with a Daf trailer which was coming from Lokoja. The four occupants of the car and the driver died on the spot,” Daily Trust quotes a witness as saying.
Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) operatives reportedly arrived at the scene and evacuated the corpses to the mortuary in Gwagwalada.
FRSC sector commander in FCT, Sunday E.Oghenekaro, blamed the accident on reckless driving.
Oghenekaro added that, “it is very unfortunate that those children ought to have been in school at that time of the night.”
The Spokesperson of University of Abuja, Waziri Garba confirmed the death of the students whose identities were not revealed.
