TRAGIC! Campaign vehicle hits 6 children, kills 3 on its way to rally in Jigawa
A campaign vehicle of the APC lost control along the Guri-Hadejia road in Jigawa on Monday evening and hit six children.
The vehicle, the police confirmed to NAN on Wednesday, was conveying party supporters to the venue of the rally organized to flag-off the re-election campaign of Governor Badaru in Guri when the accident occurred.
Police spokesman Abdu Jinjir confirmed that three of the children – 4-year-old Maryam Adamu, 9-year-old Habibu Yusif, and 10-year-old Aminu Abdullahi – died on the spot, while the remaining three were critically injured.
The driver of the vehicle was arrested, Jinjir also confirmed. He said investigation had begun into the case.
Another accident occurred on Tuesday night along Jahun to Kiyawa road, when the driver of a Ford vehicle with four female occupants sighted a camel crossing the highway and lost control of his vehicle as he tried to avoid hitting the camel.
“The vehicle somersaulted and, resulting in the passengers sustaining serious injuries. Policemen immediately visited the scene and took the victims to the hospital for treatment,” Jinjiri said.
He said one of the vehicle’s occupants, 40-year-old Aisha Tahir, died while receiving treatment at the hospital.
Other victims, including the driver, were receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Birninkudu.
