Tinubu appoints 39-Year-Old Professor Segun Aina as new JAMB Registrar

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), succeeding Professor Ishaq Oloyede whose second tenure ends on July 31, 2026.

The appointment was announced in a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, the presidential adviser on information and strategy. Aina, a professor of computer engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, will officially assume office after Oloyede completes his tenure.

At 39, Aina is set to become the youngest person ever appointed registrar of Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board. He is expected to turn 40 in July.

According to the presidency, Aina is recognised for his expertise in digital systems, examination processes, and institutional reform. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Systems Engineering from University of Kent, as well as a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University. He also attended the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.

The statement noted that Aina’s relationship with JAMB began during his National Youth Service, where he gained early experience in admissions administration and data management systems. Over the years, he has contributed to reforms aimed at improving examination processes and institutional efficiency.

With more than 15 years of professional experience, Aina has worked at the intersection of technology and public policy, advising both federal and state governments on digital transformation and operational reforms. He has also consulted for examination bodies such as National Examinations Council and National Business and Technical Examinations Board on issues relating to ICT systems and examination integrity.
