The policemen, numbering five, were said to be on a surveillance patrol when their vehicle collided with an unregistered tipper.
The Peugeot 406 car in which the students were travelling reportedly somersaulted after hitting a pothole and collided with a Daf trailer.
No one was killed or injured in the crash.
