2Baba, Yemi Alade, Peruzzi and other stars helping Nigerians amid COVID-19 pandemic

As the coronavirus pandemic continues to affect people in Nigeria and around the world, some Nigerian celebrities are not leaving the responses to corporate organisations alone, they are also taking to social media to offer support to those affected by the deadly virus.

They are also feeling the effects of the shut down, with the suspension of concerts and other social activities, no thanks to the need for social distancing and self-isolation as part of measures to contain the virus, but they are

Notwithstanding, some Nigerian stars, are stepping up to help those in need in these difficult time. Singer Douglas Agu aka Runtown was the first to make the move that earned him accolades from netizens when he announced N10m giveaway on social media on Wednesday. Since then many others have been showing support.

Here is a list of some celebrities who have responded:

1. 2Baba

Innocent Idibia aka 2Baba, on Tuesday, pledged a donation of N10 million to the fight against COVID-19. According to the singer, the donation is in conjunction with International Breweries Plc. “Together with Trophy Extra Special Stout, I will be making a N10m donation to support initiatives combating CoVID 19,” 2Baba said in a post on his Instagram page.

2. Peruzzi

DMW signee Tobechukwu Victor Okoh aka Peruzzi took to Twitter on Wednesday to pledge a donation of N1 million (N10,000 to 100 fans) and asked fans to send their account number in the comment section of his tweet. The singer said times are hard and cautioned netizens not to mock those who dropped their account details to benefit from the giveaway.

3. Toyin Abraham

The Nollywood actress announced on her Instagram page that she will be distributing food items and hand sanitizers to people who are in dire need in Lagos, Ogun, Kwara and other states where she can get volunteers.

“Hi guys, looking for genuine and honest people who can help me out with this. I will send you money but your account has to be functioning and these will be monitored every step of the way,” she wrote on IG. Many fans have volunteered for the task and it has since kicked off in some states.

4. DJ Kaywise

Popular disc jockey Ayorinde Kehinde Okiki aka DJ Kaywise also joined the rising list by announcing free data subscription to 50 fans as his contribution to support to those affected by COVID-19.

5. Yemi Alade

After receiving several requests from fans asking her to also dole out cash, the singer took to her Twitter page to reveal that she will randomly send money to fans.

“The amount of account numbers I am seeing, you would think I was a bank. I will do my best to give randomly to as many as I can,” Yemi Alade tweeted on Wednesday.

On Thursday morning she wrote: “My management has sent out money this morning, God bless and keep us all. Be safe, Sanitize and stay at home.” She, however, did not reveal how much she gave out.
