17 dead after twin blasts rock Somalia
At least 17 people were killed, Sunday afternoon, after Islamist terror group, al Shabaab bombed a busy junction and a nearby restaurant in Baidoa, Somalia.
Al Shabaab often carries out such suicide attacks in the capital and elsewhere in its bid to topple Somalia’s Western- backed government, Reuters reports.
“The restaurant and the junction were very busy and the death toll may rise,” Police Major Bilow Nurr is quoted to have said.
Al Shabaab has also confirmed it carried out the attack.
“We targeted government officials and forces,” its military operation spokesman, Sheikh Abdiasis Abu Musab told Reuters.
It was however gathered that the two locations were full of civilians and security forces.
The blasts follow a car bomb attack in Mogadishu near a park and hotel on Friday that killed 14 people, police said..
