11-year-old girl, woman, die in building collapse in Lagos
A woman and an 11-year-old girl were killed in the building collapse that occurred in the Agege area of Lagos early Saturday morning.
A part of the distressed storey building on Abeje street had caved in unexpectedly around 10 a.m.
The deceased were identified as little Sherifat Olalere and 35-year-old Toyin Ogundimu.
LASEMA officials who responded to a distressed call from the area, removed the two corpses and deposited them in a mortuary.
The emergency agency’s boss, Adesina Tiamiyu urged occupants of residential buildings in the state to be conscious of cracks on the walls and to always raise alarm.
He said, “The agency received a distress call via the emergency toll free number at about 10:48 a.m concerning a building at 9 Abeje Street, Markaz, Agege. This eased up the rapid activation of the agency’s Response Team to the scene of the incident.
“Investigation carried out by the LASEMA response team at the scene of the incident revealed that a distress storeyed building suffered partial collapse at the backside.
“Unfortunately, two persons, a female adult, Toyin Ogundimu 35, and a young girl, Sherifat Olalere, 11, lost their lives to the incident and one male adult, Mustapha Salaudeen, was rescued and treated at the scene by the ambulance crew.”
