WATCH: Reactions, fallout from APC governorship primary election in Lagos
The APC gubernatorial primary election held across several parts of Lagos State on Tuesday, October 2.
The election would determine the party’s candidate heading into the general elections in 2019. While the election process was largely peaceful, it was marred by reports of intimidation of members who planned to vote for incumbent Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.
See some of the incidences at various wards…
At the Abesan ward, Alimosho area of Lagos, members of the party unanimously voted for Ambode’s opponent, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
In Surulere, Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila was seen calling for support for Sanwo-Olu.
No member queued in front of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s poster at one of the wards during the primary election.
At another ward in Somolu, a woman alleged that members who planned to vote for Governor Ambode were beaten.
“We were not allowed to vote in Somolu ward J. Anybody that wanted to vote for Ambode was flogged,” she said.
One Party leader at a yet-to-be-identified ward told members that no one would be allowed to vote for Governor Ambode during the primary election.
The National Working Committee’s panel of the All Progressives Congress conducting the governorship primary election in Lagos State has, however, said any election purportedly carried out in any ward in the state earlier today is null and void, as the stakeholders had yet to agree on important guidelines for the primary.
