NWC declares results of Lagos primary election null and void

The National Working Committee’s panel of the All Progressives Congress conducting the governorship primary election in Lagos State on Tuesday has urged the public to dismiss election results circulating on social media.

The committee claims voting hasn’t commenced as a crucial meeting with key stakeholders was still in progress.

The chairman of the panel, Mr. Clement Ebri, told Punch that there were grey areas to be ironed out before the commencement of the election.

He said, “The primary election hasn’t started. We are in a meeting with the party chairman in Lagos and the agents of the two contenders in the primary election.

“There are grey areas to be ironed out. We want to organise a free, fair and transparent primary election and that is why this meeting is very crucial.

“It is after we have settled the grey areas and address all the stakeholders’ concerns that we will send people out from here to conduct the primary.”

However, party leader Bola Ahmed Tinubu was at his ward earlier on Tuesday to cast his vote, as well as one of two aspirants, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Results filtering in had put Babajide Sanwo-Olu in firm lead with Governor Akinwunmi Ambode playing catch-up, even as the NWC dissociated itself from the exercise.
