Victims trapped as Five-Storey Building collapses in Lagos

A five-storey building has collapsed in the Alakija area of Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State, leaving several occupants feared trapped beneath the debris.

The incident occurred on Thursday morning, prompting an emergency response from multiple agencies and security operatives.

In a statement shared on X, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed that rescue teams had arrived at the scene and were working to save those trapped in the rubble.

According to the agency, an excavator has been deployed to aid the ongoing rescue operation.

LASTMA said personnel from the Nigerian Police Force, the Nigerian Navy, the Lagos State Building Control Agency, and officials of the power distribution company are currently coordinating efforts at the site.

The collapse has also led to heavy traffic congestion around the area as emergency responders continue operations.

Rescue efforts were still ongoing at the time of filing this report.
