Uber CEO apologises after firing “bullshit” comments at driver

Uber’s reputation is certainly going through a rough patch these days.

Not only was the company indicted by a former worker for turning a blind eye to her sexual harassment by a supervisor, a video of the CEO arguing with a driver has been released, forcing him to issue a groveling apology for his actions.

Published by Bloomberg, CEO Travis Kalanick is seen in the clip with two female friends.

As the ride ends, the Uber driver, who was later identified as Fawzi Kamel, talks to him about the troubles faced by Uber drivers because of the company policy.

It soon became a heated argument and Kalanick said it was ‘bullshit’ that Kamel claims to have lost $97,000 due to Uber’s frequent changes. The Uber boss later tells him, ‘Some people don’t like to take responsibility for their own bullshit, they blame everybody else for it…’

In an email he sent out after the story came out, he said, ‘To say that I am ashamed is an extreme understatement… It’s clear this video is a reflection of me—and the criticism we’ve received is a stark reminder that I must fundamentally change as a leader and grow up. This is the first time I’ve been willing to admit that I need leadership help and I intend to get it.’
