Trader burns 12-year-old with pressing iron for “taking her drink without permission”

A trader has landed in trouble with the police in Lagos for allegedly burning her 12-year-old houseboy with a pressing iron.

The boy, Friday Obi, was allegedly punished by Sarah Eteigbe for drinking her 7up beverage.

Reports say Sarah took Friday into her one-room apartment on Mutairu Street, Bariga, four years ago. She had allegedly been maltreating him since the time, much to the displeasure of her landlord and Friday’s teachers.

The victim’s teachers noticed bloodstains on his uniform last Friday, and he revealed he had been burnt with a pressing iron.

Sarah told police that Friday drank a bottle of seven-up without her permission, but the victim said she usually beats him at the slightest opportunity.

“There was a time she cut me with a razor blade. On this day in question, I returned from school late and by the time I got home, there was no food. I had to drink the 7-Up because I was hungry,” he claimed.

One neighbour was quoted as saying Sarah purposely left nails in her door net in a bid to prevent her children from playing with Friday.

Police have charged Sarah to court where she has been granted N200,000 bail. Her next court appearance is on December 3.
