Rhodes-Vivour Vows to Challenge APC Again in 2027 Lagos Polls

Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, Labour Party’s governorship candidate in Lagos during the 2023 election, has announced his intention to contest for the position again in 2027.

He disclosed this during an interview on Gold Room, a show hosted by Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo.

“By God’s grace, I will run for governorship again in 2027. We are working. We gained a lot of traction, saw our mistakes, saw the loopholes we made, and we’re working on that,” he said.

Rhodes-Vivour hinted that the opposition parties’ silence after the election was a major weakness that affected their performance during the election.

“I think the biggest mistake that has happened in Lagos politics is after elections, the opposition goes quiet. That is not happening this time,” he stated.

He highlighted efforts his team is making to stay visible, including health outreaches and a micro health insurance plan offering free treatments worth up to ₦6,000.

“We’re in people’s faces…and holding the government accountable, calling out when public funds are mismanaged,” he added.

In the 2023 Lagos governorship election, Rhodes-Vivour emerged as the strongest challenger to incumbent Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the All Progressives Congress (APC). While Sanwo-Olu secured victory with 762,134 votes, Rhodes-Vivour polled 312,329 votes. Abdulazeez Adediran of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) came third with 62,449 votes.

Citing alleged irregularities, Rhodes-Vivour contested the election results at the Lagos Governorship Election Tribunal, but his suit was dismissed. His appeals to the Court of Appeal and later the Supreme Court also failed to overturn the outcome.
