Police restricts vehicular movement on election day
The Acting Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu has ordered the restriction of vehicular movement across the country on the day of election from 6AM to 6PM.
As the country go to the polls for Presidential and National Assembly elections on February 16, Adamu urged all Nigerians to ensure that they do not move about with vehicles during the restricted time frame.
He said that this action is in the overall interest of the public and national security as it will give the police ample space to effectively curtail the activities of thugs who harbour the intention of disrupting the electoral process.
The police disclosed that it has deployed operatives nationwide and will be working with other security agencies to ensure that adequate security is put in place to create a safe and conducive environment for peaceful and credible election.
Adamu regretted the inconvenience that the restriction will cause the citizens and charged the public to use the opportunity to come out en-masse to exercise their franchise by voting for their preferred candidate without any fear.
He stated that defaulters of the restriction order will be apprehended.
