“Please contest in 2019” – APC begs Buhari

Exactly two years ago, Nigerians sent shock waves across Africa by chosen Muhammadu Buhari over incumbent Goodluck Jonathan.

Many now say they regret doing so as the Nigerian economy continue to perform woefully.

Buhari, 74, has not been feeling to well raising concerns the old man lacks the mental and physical stamina to withstand the demands of the Nigerian Presidency.

The President’s health is so frail he handed power over to deputy Yemi Osinbajo, and went on a 49-day medical vacation to London.

“I couldn’t recall being so sick since I was a young man, including in the military with its ups and downs”, Buhari said after returning to Nigeria.

“I am feeling much better now. There may, however, be need for further follow up within some weeks,” he said.

Buhari has since remain quiet on the political scene. Many say he is not strong enough to finish his first tenure well let alone run for another.

But the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) insist the President must finish what he started. APC chairman John Odigie-Oyegun said Buhari must contest in 2019.

“That will be the greatest sacrifice he will be making for the progress, growth and stability of this country and Nigerians will be the ultimate beneficiary of that decision,” Oyegun said on Monday.

“The President Buhari I know is not afraid to sacrifice his health for the progress of this country.

“On my part and other progressive-minded Nigerians who mean well for this country, we will beg him to run again in 2019 because there is still a lot of work to be done.

“Four years, even eight years is not enough to redress the damages that have been done over the years. However, the ultimate decision is his but Nigerians will be the greatest beneficiaries if he accepts the challenge,” he said.
