Orphan throws 12-day-old baby inside pit latrine in Ogun
Amudalat Taiwo, a 21-year-old orphan threw her 12-year-old baby into a pit latrine in Ogun state.
The incident reportedly occurred on June 20 at 28, Isheri street, Ilaro.
Taiwo said she threw the baby into the latrine due to her inability to care for the child. Her husband, Taiwo Owolabi, was said to have deserted her for his other wife who bore him five children.
The young mother was arrested after her landlord lodged a complaint with the police. He said that one of his tenants heard the cries of a baby inside the pit toilet when she was there. The toilet was broken and the baby was rescued.
Amudalat later confessed to the crime, claiming to be an orphan.
She said she decided to get rid of the baby as her husband wasn’t interested in taking care of any of them.
The baby is presently in a stable condition at the Stella Obasanjo motherless baby home in Abeokuta and Amudalat’s husband has also been arrested for failure to provide necessary needs for mother and child.
