Nigerian Catholic priest sacked for molesting 8-year-old girl in US

A Nigerian Catholic priest, Rev. Christian Ohazulume has been sacked for allegedly an 8-year-old child in the United States.

Ohazulume who, according to the Archdiocese of Boston, has been a chaplain at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center since 2010, was said to have sexually molested his uncle’s child.

The child said he touched her inappropriately and kissed her at the basement of their house sometime in 2007. Ohazulume was living with the victim’s family at the time, as he had just gotten to America.

The Archdiocese said in a statement on Tuesday that it received “an allegation of sexual abuse of a child on August 31.”

“The allegation was identified to have occurred in 2007, during a time he was residing with a family upon his arrival in the United States a d the victim was 8 years old,” the statement further said.

The Archdiocese said it notified Ohazulume’s home diocese in Nnewi, Anambra State, about the allegation.

Ohazulume pleaded not guilty to three counts of aggravated and indecent assault and battery on a child under the age of 14.

A bail of $5,000 was set for him by the judge and he was ordered to wear a GPS monitoring device and stay away from the victim and minors.

The victim’s father, is quoted as saying to NECN that he assisted Ohazulume, his nephew, in getting into the United States to study at Boston College.

“I invested in Father Christian coming to this country. I helped him in many ways. Like a son,” he said.
