Nigerian Army declares IPOB a ‘terrorist organization’

Off the heels of continuous tension in Abia State, Nigerian military has declared the Independent People of Biafra (IPOB) as a terrorist organisation. In a statement issued by the Director Defence Information, Major General John Enenche.

He further described claims by IPOB members that the organization is nonviolent is not true, citing some instances that IPOB has displayed violence to include: The formation of a Biafra Secret Service, formation of Biafra National Guard, unauthorised blocking of public access roads, extortion of money from innocent civilians at illegal road blocks, militant possession and use of weapons (stones, molotov cocktails, machetes and broken bottles among others) on a military patrol on 10 September 2017.

 

Members of IPOB and army officials had engaged in a standoff on Tuesday.
