Nigerian army arrests man for reporting Boko Haram suicide bomber who blew self up at Borno blockade
By Usman Abubakar
Rabiu Usman tipped Nigerian soldiers off on a possible Boko Haram suicide bomber, and his apprehension proved true.
You would think such an act would be greeted by accolades, and not detention.
Usman is currently in the custody of the Nigerian army, reports say.
…and no one would have heard about his plight had concerned Borno residents not cried foul.
Usman, a. k. a. Billejo, was heading for state capital Maiduguri with his passengers when another potential passenger flagged him down.
For reasons best known to the cab driver, there was something fishy about his new passenger, witnesses said.
On getting to a security checkpoint, Usman reported his suspicions to the soldiers…then the suspected bomber detonated himself minutes later.
“It is very unfortunate that instead of commending his effort at saving lives he was arrested by the military at Sector Six and subsequently moved to Maimalari military cantonment at about 6:00pm on Monday,” a resident who does not want to be identified said.
The Nigerian Army is yet to comment on the issue.
