Multichoice Nigeria: Entertaining and Informing Nigerians Through The Years

Leading entertainment and media company in Nigeria Multichoice, owners of DStv and Gotv,  through the challenges of operating in a market as competitive and regulated as the Pay Tv market has come out on top. Through providing its customers value at every turn, Multichoice has managed to successfully convert several loyal customers, families all across Nigeria. Not only does the company pride itself in providing value for its customers, there is also something for everyone.

The Chairman of MultiChoice Nigeria, Adewunmi Ogunsanya (SAN), in an interview, explained how the company has survived the last 27 years of operating in the choppy waters of media and broadcasting in Nigeria, he said,

“We have survived because we have kept our eyes on multiple balls. There are many balls to keep an eye on when it comes to Pay TV business. There is that of business and then the need to prioritize quality content for different demographics.

In addition, we never forget that ours is a technology business; one that thrives on innovation. We have benefited a great deal from being part of a multinational that pays a great deal of attention to seeking, adopting and deploying only the most current and state-of-the-art technology for our business.”

At a time when misinformation about the true nature of the  COVID-19 was rife in Nigeria, Multichoice took several proactive steps to ensure the free flow of accurate information to the general public. Explaining the company’s intentions for making the donation, John Ugbe, CEO of MultiChoice Nigeria said, “We have committed N550 Million worth of inventory to public service announcements in our indigenous languages in addition to English and Pidgin to ensure that every Nigerian understands how to prevent Covid-19 or call for help through the NCDC helplines”.

The Company also donated 50 Million Naira to the Lagos State Government to aid its fight against the pandemic as well as donate 10,000 certified coronavirus test kits to the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC).

The donation of the test kits by the entertainment and media company was particularly welcome especially in light of the reported global shortage of test kits which prevented a lot of people from getting tested for the virus, proving to be one of the biggest challenges in fighting the pandemic.
